Good News = No News

For the second week in a row there has been nothing but great news coming out of Iraq. Thanks to General Petreaus the U.S. Military has regained control of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. Yet the good news is not merely limited to military victories. We are also seeing extreme improvement in sectarian relations. This came via the recent Fatwa (Holy Pledge) against violence signed by leaders of the Shiite and Sunni sects. This is a huge step in the direction of peace and security.

Yet with all this great news there seems to be something missing... oh that's right it needs to be reported. Now that Iraq is finally on the right track its now on the back page. All the prime press time has now been divert to predicting when our evil capitalist society will face economic doom. Ever day there is a new story about the dollar's decline or problems in the sub prime. However the great news coming of Iraq is largely ignored. It was only recently that it was even acknowledge by the main stream media. It came when ABC's Charlie Gibson asked President Bush if he was tempted to brag about the obvious success of the surge. Other then that its been ignored.

Now my question is simple now that the media has at bare minimum acknowledged success when are the Democrats going to step up. Remember Harry Reid's prolific announcement "The War is Lost; or when Hillary told General Petreaus, an American hero mind you, that to believe his report required a "Willing Suspension Of Disbelief". The Democrats have yet to step up and apologize for there partisan and largely moronic contentions about the surge. They continue to press for withdrawal and defeat. The Democrats need to listen to Joe Lieberman and start to de-Mcgovernize, otherwise they are dooming there political future by betting on the defeat of the United States.

2008: Politics Gone Wild

In case you have not noticed, the race for 08 is officially out of control. Between the questions over Mitt Romney's Religion, and analysis of whether or not Obama is black; it is enough to drive any sane person off the edge. It boggles the mind. In a time when Americans are constantly voicing concern about the overly political nature of our culture; this coverage is not exactly comforting. If it is not the Republicans with their evangelical litmus test; its the Democrats with their unwavering loyalty to the Clintons.

What happened to races based on Issues and creating prosperity for future generations. It seems that we are more concerned with whose soundbite came out the best. Abraham Lincoln never had to pass a litmus test to get nominated by his party. Instead he made it to the top based on merit. Yet in modern day America, it is more important to analyze a candidates stance on abortion rather then whether or not they can actually lead the nation.

Just look at the rise of republican Mike Huckabee. Here is a man that as pointed out by Robert Novak is probably the least conservative candidate in the race. Yet due to a couple of niche issues that are valued by the infamous "moral majority", he has surged to second in the polling of the Iowa Cuacus. Abortion is not going to define our country for years to come; yet social security, health care, and most importantly the War on Terror are.

Even better is the unbelievable analysis of Barack Obama. First the America Media (Loyal to the Clintons above all else) was questioning his "blackness"; this was enough to send any normal American into a mind numbing coma. That was shortly followed by prodding into his past drug use. Now obviously this is coming out of the Clinton camp which sees Obama as the one potential threat to Mrs. Clinton's inevitability. Yet Barack had a good retort to Bill Clinton's infamous "I did not inhale response". Barack responded when asked if he inhaled with "Yes I Inhaled... That was the point". Now as much as I enjoy a good piece of comedic quotation, the central issue remains what dose this have to do with the issues facing this country in the coming years.

When are we as Americans going to wise up to these shenanigans. On one hand you have conservatives assailing proven leaders like Giuliani for stances on abortion and gay rights. On the other you have the anti war left forcing its candidate to be against the concept of American victory in the War on Terror. This is country is going down a very treacherous path. We are going to need a true leader to guide us not the usual crowd of over political figures who are more concerned with winning then doing whats right.

Spitzer Backs Down

Governor Eliot Spitzer of New York appears to be backing off his program to give illegal immigrant’s driver’s licenses. This comes out of the recent national focus on his plan; the focus was in response to Hillary Clinton’s apparent support of the program during a presidential debate. Her answer was puzzling to say the least. She found a way to support the plan, attack bush, and disagree with the plan all in one sentence. It appears that the gaffe was larger then we initially expected. After that debate drivers licenses for illegal immigrants has become a mainstream issue. Let us first take a look at the plan and its obvious and less then obvious flaws.

Governor Spitzer was looking to give drivers license to Illegal immigrants. Now that is bad enough on its own but it gets worse. There is a form in New York known as the Motor-Voter form; this document allows those with a driver’s license to register to vote. The clincher; there is no requirement to prove citizenship. This means essentially that if you have a driver’s license you can vote. This is essentially a giant example of voter fraud. Governor Spitzer’s plan would allow illegal immigrants to vote and presumably because he granted them the power they would support him. More importantly have any of you reading this been the DMV lately. Did it seem like they needed more things to deal with.

Now some of you are asking why dose Hillary care? Well because she’s trying to win both sides. She criticizes the president for lack of action while semi-supporting Spitzer. This way she can gain votes from those concerned with immigration policy as well as gain votes from a growing Hispanic community. In attempt to waffle as her husband did before her she is playing both sides. This time how ever she was caught. Her opponents in the debate pounced on her and ripped into her flawed and ultimately contradictory statement. Now she can probably ride this out and still win the nomination. But she has just handed the Republican Party general election advertising gold; and mark my words they will capitalize on this issue.

U.S. Military Scores Another Hit On Al Queda

As reported in Americas most liberal news outlet the New York Times, Al Qaeda has been largely defeated in Baghdad. It appears the long debated surge is proving to have been a potential legacy saver for President George W. Bush. Baghdad is now on track to become the second major battle ground to be cleared. The surge has so far produced the clearing of terrorist strongholds in the Anbar Province and now the capital is on its way to peace. A huge sign of impending peace, as reported on the Times Online, is the soon to be signed "fatwa against violence". It is a document signaling that both the Sunni and the Shia are going to stop the violence in Iraq. Once again reality trumps liberalism. Despite claims by liberals that the Iraqis are too violent to self govern, the different sects of Iraq are taking steps to repair the rift and establish a co-governed Iraq. It appears that U.S. forces are finally beginning to see the result of their hard work, and their leaders strong planning.

General
Pretreaus should be commended and honored. He has taken a seemingly endless conflict and with the help of a new strategy and white house support turned this into a war that can be won. Petreaus's plan has provided the needed security that will allow Iraqi leaders and U.S. leaders to begin to provide the vital infrastructure the country has lacked during the last 4 years.

Maj. Gen. Joseph F. Fil Jr., commander of United States forces in Baghdad was quoted in the New York Times Article as saying "that if 2007 was the year of security, 2008 would probably be a year of reconstruction, a year of infrastructure repair, and a year of, if there’s going to be a surge, a year of the surge of the economy" It seems the victory is insight. We now have obtained a level of security in Iraq that will allow the infrastructure of the country to be rebuilt. If done right we could see a huge reversal by the end of 2008.

Yet what was the reaction of Nancy
Pelosi when asked to put forth funding for the war. She attached a condition, to the 50 billion dollars, that the President must begin withdrawing troops. Nancy, you are the speaker of the house your job is to legislate not run the military. Just because your attempts to legislate a democratic agenda have been monumental failures dose not make it your job to dictate foreign policy to the President of the United States.
